Theo watched as Rabastan questioned Vivian's name and he nodded as he said Blackwell. But when he asked if she was part veela his face twisted into one of confusion. How could he possibly have known that Vivian was part Veela? But he listened as Rab told him not to trust Vivian. He nodded, knowing that he trusted Vivian with most things, but perhaps this was one thing that he could trust no one with. Perhaps he would have to keep it entirely to himself. He said nothing about Daphne or Eli, but he knew that no matter if he said something or not they were still not to be trusted. Rabastan told him to wait until their loyalty had been tested and Theo tilted his head slightly. Hadn't Vivian's loyalty already been tested with the letter?
"But Vivian took the fall for me, doesn't that mean she can be trusted? Or are you worried she'll tell her parents?" he asked, the memory of seeing her god-awful parents causing his stomach to churn uneasily. He still hated them for what they'd done to her. Just because Vivian's parents were untrustworthy didn't make Vivian so by association. "Vivian hates her parents. They're...awful." He let the words hang in the air and he wasn't sure whether or not he should go into any more detail. He wasn't sure if that was appropriate. Rabastan already seemed to hate the Blackwells, and the Woods, would hearing about what they're truly like only make him hate them even more? Would it matter much if he hated them more? He pushed the thoughts to the back of his head as he looked around them, the sun was beginning to show through the clouds and he knew that their time together was growing short. He frowned at the realization.
He turned back to his father, unsure of how to say this. "We probably don't have much time..." he began, the sadness evident in his voice and heavy on his heart. Oh how badly he just wanted to leave right then and there, go back to the cabin with his father and his uncle and live that way. But he knew that could not be so. He brought his arms around his father again, hugging him tight. "Thank you...Dad."

Theo voiced exactly what Rabastan had been thinking; the Blackwell girl had taken the fall for Theo with that letter. Rab didn't know why she would do that. She was an enigma, and with her parentage that made her dangerous.
He listened, deep in thought, as Theo said that she hated her parents. Maybe she could be trusted, maybe she was nothing like her parents. But then again, maybe not. And that was the problem. Rab didn't know this girl, and even though Theo did, could he really know if he could trust her?
"I don't know, kid," Rabastan said, frowning slightly. "You'd know better than I would. In the end its up to you. It's your decision. You know what I think. But before you say anything, ask yourself this; would you trust her with your life?"
Rabastan had a lot experience with trust, and a lack there of. He knew that sometimes it could literally come down to that. Could you, or could you not, trust that person with your life? Sometimes it wasn't your actual life, just the equivalent; your livelihood, your freedom... your son.
In the end this was Theo's decision. Rab knew that even if he did tell the wrong person, he still had him to fall back on. There was nothing he wouldn't do to keep Theo out of that hell hole, the wizard prison. Cecilia would have expected nothing less of him.
Theo said they didn't have much time, and Rabastan heard the sadness in his voice. Although he too was sad that they would have to part, and although he didn't want Theo to be upset, he had to admit that hearing that sadness warmed him slightly. It was nice to know that Theo didn't want to leave him. Theo hugged him again, and Rab wrapped his arms tightly around him. He called him 'dad', and a grin spread across Rab's face. "Don't mention it, Rory," he said, giving him a squeeze. "I'll see you really soon, I promise."

Rabastan once again placed heavy words on Theo's heart, but not before making him grin. He and his father both spoke similarly as well. He grinned at the thought before nodding at his father's advice. He wasn't sure if he could trust anyone but himself with his life. Vivian had taken the fall for him with the letter, sure, but... only because she knew she'd get out. She was so sure of herself. Part of Theo wondered if it wasn't so sure... Would she still have done it? He didn't know the answer, and he probably never would. He was glad that in the end Rabastan left the decision up to him. He was glad that he wasn't too overbearing. He was his father, yes, but Theo wasn't quite sure he had the authority quite yet to make decisions for him. He wasn't sure if Rab would ever have that kind of authority. But even if he did, it didn't seem likely that he would use it.
"I'll be careful. I promise," he said with a grin before they were embracing again. It was nice to feel loved and wanted, like he had a family member he could finally count on. And when Rabastan called him Rory he couldn't fight the grin from his face no matter how hard he wanted to. Not that he wanted to at all. Part of Theo felt like he was flying and nothing could bring him down. So this is what it felt like to have a family, as misguided and messed up as it was, it was his and all his own. He wouldn't give that up for anything in the world. He said he'd see him real soon and Theo frowned as he realized now would be their time to say goodbye. The sun was rising and though he didn't have any lessons quite that early in the morning he wasn't foolish enough to allow himself to get caught in the Forbidden Forest. Hagrid would be out on the grounds for Care of Magical Creatures, students like Lyra might just want to go for walks. No, it wasn't safe for them to stay there any longer. Still, no matter how sad he was he put a grin on for his father, staring up at him. He wasn't too much taller than Theo himself, but there was still a slight tilt to his head as he spoke.
"I'm holding you to that," he said with a grin before looking back to the castle. "Be careful. I'll see you soon," he said with a grin before checking his pocket for the mirror and his wand once more. All he would have to do was say his father's name, and he could see him anytime he wanted. It was the best gift he'd ever been given in the entirety of his life, he was sure. He gave his father a final wave before turning and walking back toward the castle. He hadn't wanted to leave the forest. It was a memory that he would hold in his mind and in his heart forever, and he was sure there'd be a grin on his face all day. Today was one of the best days of his life, and it started out absolutely horribly. [/blockquote]
