Vivian was excited when it seemed Theo finally agreed to duel with her. Whatever inner conflict he had had about the situation was apparently resolved, and he was ready to go. She didn't bow when he bowed to her; she thought it was silly, and besides it was only her and Theo in the room, who were they trying to impress exactly?
Vivian stood with her wand ready, waiting for Theo to make the first move. She expected him to go easy on her, at least at first. He wouldn't outright attack her. Which was probably a good thing, since natural ability couldn't entirely make up for never paying attention in class. But Vivian had already decided that she wanted to push Theo, to see how far he would go with it. She wasn't scared. She knew that any injuries could be patched up, and strictly speaking she should have gone to the hospital wing anyway, to get her ribs and cheekbone checked out.
Theo conjured a wall of fire in front of Vivian, and she smiled. She had been right, he had gone easy on her. Yes, fire was impressive, and could be dangerous, but the fire wasn't advancing on her, and she wasn't in any danger of being burnt. Well, fire was Vivian's speciality, and Theo had very nicely provided her with such a nice supply.
She couldn't manipulate Theo's magical fire outright (it was his magic making it, not hers) but she could add something else into the mix; she shot balls of quickly propelled gas filled air straight into the fire, and they came out on the other side as balls of fire, heading for Theo. She didn't really want to hurt Theo, but she was confident that he could handle himself. And besides, Madam Pomfry could patch up a burn in no time. Although she didn't think he'd ever forgive her if she singed his hair.

Theo expected Vivian to retaliate, but her choice of retaliation was interesting. Minimal effort on her part, really. He smirked as the balls of gas came flying toward them, and he doused all three of them with water. So fired wasn't going to scare her at all. He was going to have to try a bit harder, but not without a bit of taunting first.
"Oi what's the matter Vivian? Too lazy to conjure your own magic?" he asked through a grin before shaking his head and lifting his wand once more. He sent a bolt of electricity flying straight for her head with no intention of moving his aim. She'd either block it... or her hair would smell like burnt and look as if she'd been... well, struck by lightning. It wouldn't be a pretty sight to say the least, so Theo presumed she would block it.
After all, it would do nothing for her already bruised cheek and practically ruining her hair on top of it? No, that would be a mess Vivian wouldn't want to deal with, but perhaps it would send the message to Vivian that he was serious about this duel. He attempted to take it easy the first time, but now he'd let her choose what level of intensity the battle would have.

Vivian laughed as Theo said she was too lazy to conjure up her own magic. Why bother, when it wasn't needed? Duels weren't won by showing off.
She dodged out of the way of the lightning-like spell that Theo had sent shooting straight for her, but didn't entirely get out of the way; the bolt grazed off her shoulder, slightly singing her t-shirt. It was a very odd feeling, as Vivian got what she assumed was an electric shock. It had felt very unpleasant, and Vivian scowled.
She shook out her arm slightly, trying to rid it of the strange, slightly dead feeling. Luckily for her (and unluckily for Theo) it wasn't her wand arm, so she wasn't out of the game just yet.
Her wand suddenly flashed out, and Vivian said "Petrificus totalus!"
Vivian had moved surprisingly quickly, and had high hopes that Theo wouldn't have expected her to have recovered from being hit by his spell quite so quickly.

Vivian had dodged his lightning, but not completely, which brought a satisfied, proud grin to Theo's face. It grazed her shoulder and while he was sure it hurt he knew he didn't seriously injure her. Even through the smoke the fire had left behind he saw her wand hand move as fast as the lightning that left her wand, and he was on his toes, unsure of what the girl would be doing next.
Her heard her shout the words for a full body bind curse and immediately jumped to the left before shouting "Protego!" a shield charm erupted from his wand, and the full body-bind curse, thankfully, didn't get anywhere near him. If it had hit him he likely would have been out of the battle for good, and that was something he didn't want.
He smirked as the small shield charm dissipated around him and he lifted his wand to attack once more. And now he decided he was just going to have a little fun with her.
"Densaugeo!" he shouted with a laugh.

Vivian performed the quickest shield charm of her life, and blocked Theo's spell. She made a sound like an angry cat. Densaugeo, she knew, was a spell that made the victims front teeth to grow at an alarming rate, making them look absolutely grotesque. If Theo was going to start attacking her appearance, it was getting personal.
As if the ugly bruise on her face that his latest bitch had given him wasn't bad enough! She resisted the urge to reach up and feel the place on her face where Daphne had punched her. She wanted to know how bad it had gotten since she had last looked in the mirror, but it wouldn't do to get distracted right now. Theo might take the chance to perform a really nasty spell on her. He might do something that would leave her looking like Greengrass herself.
"Now you're just asking for it, Theo," she said, and said 'Levicourpus' in her head. It was a non-verbal spell, so she had the element of surprise, even more so than she had before. It would leave Theo hanging upside down by the ankle.

Theo laughed even harder at the sound that left Vivian after she'd ended up blocking his spell. Whatever anger and slight disappointment he'd felt at the fact that she'd managed to block his spell completely diminished at the sound that left her. It was almost as if she practically hissed at him. Okay, so physically altering spells were a good, fast way to get on Vivian's bade side, and he smirked at the thought.
Vivian said that he was asking for it and Theo let out another laugh. "Bring it on, Viv. I'd like to see you try and beat me," he said with a grin before shaking his head at her. She was probably quite capable of beating him really, but it was still entertaining to tease her. After all, confidence played a huge part in duels, just as much a part as your wand work did, really.
However, brief the distracting thoughts he had left him vulnerable, and the next thing he knew he was being lifted off his feet into the air by one ankle. Ah, so she wanted to use silent spells, eh? Cheater... he thought to himself with a laugh before shaking his head at her. He could still fire upside-down, thought it was still a slight disadvantage. He lifted his wand and used a silent spell of his own. 'Immobulus' he thought inside his head and the spell shot from his wand, and he hoped that the momentary victory Vivian had had over him would distract the girl enough to fall victim to her own theory. Immobulus would, if it all went well, render Vivian completely immobile.
Now... To get down... he thought to himself before thinking 'liberacorpus.' He braced himself for the fall and landed on his elbows and knees, quickly rising to his feet in order to defend himself should the need arise.

Vivian laughed out loud as Theo swung up into the air by his ankle, delighted at her minor victory over him. She hadn't won the duel yet, but seeing Theo hanging upside down like that was enough pay back for the jynx he had tried to get her with.
Unfortunately she was distracted by her getting the better of Theo, and also didn't expect him to get her back while he was hanging upside down like that. She thought he would let himself down first, and when he raised his wand that was exactly what she thought he was doing. If he had said the incantation she would have performed a shield charm, but he used a non-verbal spell, and before she knew what had happened she was frozen, unable to move a muscle.
Vivian was furious. Clearly, Theo had won now! There wasn't anything she could do, she couldn't raise her wand to unfreeze herself. Theo would have to do it. Of course, if he didn't want to, he might just leave her like that. Even with her face frozen, Vivian still managed to glare at Theo. A glare that clearly said 'unfreeze me now, or you'll be in trouble'. And she meant it. He would be in trouble. Deep, life altering trouble; she would see to that.

Theo's eyes lifted from the ground and what began as a small grin only grew wider as he realized his success. He let out a laugh, allowing his head to fall back toward the ground momentarily, laughing some more, before he lifted his eyes to meet hers again. When he did, Vivian's eyes were practically in a death glare, which only made him grin all the more.
He rose from his place on the floor, a smug grin on his face. He walked around her frozen figure, taking in his victory.
"What's the matter, Viv? Cat got your tongue?" he said with a laugh as he circled around back in front of her. He faced her with a smug grin on his face. The glare she was sending him told he was probably in a lot of trouble, but he’d won the duel and he would take his time savoring his victory. No matter how long he wanted to savor it, he knew if he didn’t let her out soon he’d be in heaps of trouble with her, and since he’d quite literally just gotten out of heaps of trouble with her he wasn’t really inclined to get himself into more trouble.
He mentally thought the reversal spell for immobulus, a wide grin still across his face. He was going to say something, but he figured he'd let her speak first. He'd already gloated enough... for now.

Theo teased her, and Vivian's scowl (such as it was, with her face frozen) deepened. But finally Theo performed the counter curse, and she unfroze.
Vivian shook out her shoulders (being frozen like that was uncomfortable) and ran a hand through her hair, still frowning slightly, her small nose wrinkled. "Okay okay, you win," she said not really wanting to admit it. But then again, she hadn't really expected to win. Theo practised all the time, and listened in classes, and did his homework... all of that apparently added up. Vivian had just wanted to see what he would do, and he was pleased that he hadn't held back, treating her like she was weak.
She walked back over to the desk, and sat down, scooting back so her back was against the wall. "Are you going to start gloating? Its really not very becoming." She knew that Theo would love to rub it in, and she wanted to try and head him off before he got started.
Vivian took a moment to examine her shoulder, where the lightning spell had hit her. She was slightly singed, and it felt hot, but nothing to write home about. Vivian had gotten more injuries today than she had all year.

Theo watched in amusement as she shook out her shoulders. He was sure being frozen in a specific way wasn't comfortable, but it wasn't like she was frozen for that long! Still, he said nothing as she pushed back her hair and admitted his victory. He grinned in satisfaction as she walked back to the desk she was sitting on before and scooted down. She asked if she was going to gloat, and the grin remained on his face as he shrugged slightly.
"No, no, the look on your face is definitely satisfaction enough. But don't think I won't bring it up at some point in the future," he said, a smug grin crossing his face. A victory, whether it was dueling or Quidditch was always satisfying. He was a Slytherin after all, he had high ambitions, and winning was a rush that was unlike any other, evne if it was only some silly little duel between he and Vivian. He still won.
He watched as Vivian examined her shoulder and for only a brief second he frowned. He'd not apologize for his actions, but that didn't mean he didn't care about whether or not she was okay.
"You gonna be alright?" he asked, and while the care was evident in his tone but the self-satisfied tone of his victory was there, too.

Vivian rolled her eyes as Theo said that he wouldn't be gloating. She knew him better than that. He would be very pleased with himself that he had beaten her, and wouldn't forget it quite that easily. Theo loved to win, and Vivian knew she could expect little reminders from him for a little while yet.
Theo asked if she was all right, but he couldn't quite keep the slightly smug tone out of his voice. He hadn't even managed thirty seconds (although to be fair to him he hadn't actually said anything out-right.That was something). Vivian nodded, exasperated. Of course she was all right. But she figured this was Theo's way of showing he cared or something, so she said "Yes, I'm fine," then, deciding not to let him off quite that easily, added "despite your best efforts." She smiled slightly, to let him know she wasn't serious, and that she didn't think he'd really tried to hurt her. He'd frozen her before she could push him very far. Vivian smiled even though she didn't feel like it, because she had just caught sight of the clock.
"I have to go," she said, in a moody voice "I've got detention for not doing that stupid Transfiguration homework." The prospect of sitting in a room writing lines was not appealing to Vivian. She thought her brain might just explode from the boredom of it. "I'll see you later then, Theo," she said, and left, hoping that whoever was taking detention didn't bring up her bruised cheekbone or slightly singed robes. note ;; I thought that since you started that Deo confrontation thread that it was time to end this one
