A slow silence had settled between the pair of them, and Daphne sat there, her head nestled into the crook his his neck, listening to his heartbeat and his breathing. Each seemed to be setting a steady pace, to which Daphne matched her own. She felt calmed and a sense of wholeness that she didn’t know that she could feel. Perhaps it was because she had never actually taken the time to hold someone and feel what they were feeling. ’So this is what it’s like,’ She thought idly as she sat, ‘Needing someone.’ She had never been in a real relationship before and she had never really known how to handle anything that came along with it, but as she sat there, she realized just how easy it was with Theo. How easy it was to sense when he needed her the most...how her body seemed to react to whatever it felt that he needed. It was as if she was already anticipating being with him even though they weren't...together.
And then she felt it. She wasn’t sure what to make of it at first, but it cut through the silence like a knife. She was afraid to move because she sensed all of a sudden that Theo was crying. She had never once seen him cry...nor upset for that matter. Sure he got angry, but that was about it. He became mad and insatiable like the rest of the Slytherins. But now, now this was something she had never heard before. It was soft, barely audible, but Daphne recognized it as the tell-tale signs that he was crying. Then, as soon as it all began, he had pulled away from her and was offering her thanks. She bit down on her lip, trying to hide a small smile. Now was not the right time to get giddy about Theodore Nott. Not in the slightest. But she just couldn’t help it. There was something so...sincere about the way that he was acting in this moment.
And then he was back to hugging her. She felt him tighten his grip on her and she wrapped her arms around him as best as she could. It felt like one of the best moments of her life, being wrapped up in Theodore Nott. Being there for him when he needed her to be. She had never felt like she was someone’s rock before, but in this moment, she felt herself being tethered to his very essence and she loved it. All those years of making fun of each other had turned into something more all of a sudden and she knew that she wouldn’t give it up for the world. It was odd how something as vile as their relationship had turned soft with a simple push, ”You don’t have to thank me.” She breathed, reaching up and brushing her fingertips across his cheek to wipe away some of the tear stained cheeks. There wasn’t much there, just as she suspected, but the simple fact that he had cried in front of her spoke words for itself.
She smiled at him, letting the shy little school girl finally escape and indulge for a few moments. She liked the thought that she was the only one that he had told this to. It made her feel special...more connected to him. Daph laughed nervously, not sure if making Theo cry in front of her was a good thing or a bad thing. She reached up and touched the bridge of her nose, feeling the slight crook where it had been broken, but it was really nothing...nothing now that they were...here. As he continued, she couldn’t help but roll her eyes. Royal Bull? So that’s what he really thought of all that. Not that she could blame him. It was a load of nonsense, but it was her load of nonsense. Then of course there was that nasty wink and comment about shagging that she would eventually have to tend to...but for right now, all she could do was nod and laugh slightly, ”I can honestly say-” Daphne raised her eyes to meet his, a small, rather devious smile playing on the edges of her lips, ”That no one has ever asked permission to ‘break’ anything of mine before.” She smiled a little brighter, knowing that this was what she had been waiting for since the beginning of this year; since things started changing between them, their feelings becoming realized as something more than what they were before.
”That being said-” She brushed a tendril of hair behind her ear and then moved a little closer to Theo so that their faces were inches apart. She could still see the remains of the tears that had been there earlier. But she could also see that bright smile of his...the one that she had seen so many times before. The one that always seemed to draw her out of whatever mood she was in and make her laugh. This was the reason that she wanted to be with him...for the simple joy that he brought her in whatever they did. They could be fighting about nonsense and it would still be the greatest few moments of her day. ’Theodore Nott, so many layers yet to be seen,’ She thought as she gently brushed the back of her hand over his cheek and then grinned even wider. Yes. She was sure that she was ready to handle him, but one question had been left unanswered, ”I have to say that I’m sincerely considering your proposition. But do you think that you can handle The Daphne Greengrass?” She winked and then put her arms around his neck, pressing her lips to his for just a moment, not giving him a chance to even answer the question that she posed for him. She pulled away quickly and didn’t even bother to hide the blush that had crept onto her cheeks, “Because if the answer is yes, the I’d say you’ve got yourself stuck with a new girlfriend, Theodore.”

Theo stared at Daphne as she said he didn't have to thank him, and he immediately shook his head at her. "Well I always will," he replied simply, and he meant it. Daphne Greengrass, in that moment, was there for him in a way that no one ever had been before. He'd never allowed himself to cry or grieve over his mother. When he was younger, before Hogwarts, sure he'd cry, but then his father would come in and his father would hit him. 'It's not a big deal,' 'get over it,' 'stop your sniveling,' every day it was a new excuse. So he stopped crying, he stopped being sad, and every time he thought about his mother he buried whatever hurt and pain came with it deep inside. He didn't let it out. He thought he'd never let it out.
But Daphne Greengrass had allowed him his moment of grief, however short it may have been, and it was a moment that he knew he'd never quite be able to find the words to thank her properly. It meant the world to be able to actually let a small snippet of the pain out, to allow himself to be that seven-year-old boy again, for just a few seconds. And he would be forever grateful to her for that moment, for allowing him to truly be himself without any judgments at all. It was especially nice because Daphne didn't seem to think he was any weaker for his admission. He tried so hard to remain cool, calm, collected and strong all the time. Sad was an emotion that he wasn't quite used to handling... not with other people around. He rarely allowed himself to be sad around anyone. It just wasn't the type of person he was. But when he was around Daphne that all seemed to change. He really did feel like he could tell her anything, and she would accept it. He pretty much had already told her everything, and she did accept it.
He watched Daphne carefully as she laughed nervously, and he smirked at her lightly. But she sat through his small speech, and once it was over he found himself the slightest bit nervous. The laugh she let out directly after it had finished had him raise a slight brow, but he could tell just by her laugh that it wasn't a bad thing that she was laughing. Really, he had no reason to be nervous. Theodore Nott didn't get nervous around girls. Ever. And yet here he was on the edge of his seat waiting to see what she would say. She commented that no one had ever asked permission to break anything of hers before, and he just smirked at her. He hadn't asked when he broke her nose, either, but he wasn't going to point that out. He just grinned that same goofy grin at her, wondering where she was going with all of this.
She started a sentence, and paused. The pause just about killed him, really. What was she going to say? Yes? No? It was really a relatively simple question. And yet the question that passed her lips had him grinning all the more. She placed her lips on his before he could give any kind of answer. Could he handle her? Of course he could. In fact, he was pretty sure he was the only one who could. They could clearly handle each other, maybe not as well as most couples. He knew that if they ever got into a serious argument it was likely to get heated very fast. They would have passionate fights, fights full of anger and nasty words, but at the end of the day Theo knew that she was the only girl he'd be willing to have all of those fights with. She was the only girl he wanted to have those fights with. She was the only girl he wanted.
And then she pulled away and said that, if his answer was yes, then he had himself a girlfriend. He grinned like an idiot at the very idea before closing the distance between them once more and placing his lips to hers, hard. His hand wrapped around to the back of her head and he held her there for a few seconds, giving Daphne Greengrass just a small glimpse of what she was in for, but when he pulled away that stupid little grin found its way onto his face once more. The way she had called him Theodore. It was such a much more pleasant sound than the 'Nott' she'd been using only an hour earlier at the most.
"Good thing you're the only girl I don't mind being stuck with then, isn't it?" he said with a smirk, and it was true. If he was going to have to be loyal to any girl at Hogwarts he knew he'd want it to be Daphne, the only girl he could outwardly call a bitch, get slapped for it, and then be laughing about it again five seconds later. Their relationship had always been intense, but Theo was thankful it was becoming intense in the direction it was going.
