Cypress wands are associated with nobility. The great medieval wandmaker, Geraint Ollivander, wrote that he was always honoured to match a cypress wand, for he knew he was meeting a witch or wizard who would die a heroic death. Fortunately, in these less blood-thirsty times, the possessors of cypress wands are rarely called upon to lay down their lives, though doubtless many of them would do so if required. Wands of cypress find their soul mates among the brave, the bold and the self-sacrificing: those who are unafraid to confront the shadows in their own and others’ natures.

( RIDDIKULUS! ) : There is very little that Liam fears, but losing his family is probably his biggest. His boggart takes the form of his family’s funeral. It changes every time – his mother, father despite what’s happened, sisters, and his brother.

( EXPECTO PATRONUM! ) : Liam’s best memory is the last outing his entire family went on together, before his father's passing.

( DEMENTOR'S KISS ) : Losing his father in the war.

( MIRROR OF ERISED ) : To make his family proud and live a life that's worthwhile. If he were to look in the mirror of Erised he would see himself, with his parents behind him, proud smiles on their faces.

( PERSONALITY ) : Liam is intelligent. He gets top marks in his classes and is really quite versed in reading people socially. The only problem is how reserved he is. Well, it’s not really a problem, not for him, but many people tend to think he’s shy. He’s not, he’s just the type of person who would rather sit by and observe than do all of the talking. He’s incredibly open-minded, respectful, and brave. He uses his manners when in front of adults, but tends to relax in front of his peers. He is the type of person who is willing to accept great responsibility with little to no complaint, and he fears very little. He has very set morals and always does what’s right, and sometimes he can’t really understand why other people seem to be incapable of doing the same. He’s a very take-charge kind of person, not one to wait around to get things done. This can come off as him being authoritative to some, but he doesn’t take charge of situations because he has to, he takes charge of them often because no one else is willing to do so. He naturally falls into leadership roles.

He is self-confident, but not to the point of being cocky or vain. He’s self-aware of his skills and he plays to his strengths, not allowing many others to get the best of him. Ever. He’s talented at devising systems and plans of action and being able to see what steps need to be taken to complete a task. He can occasionally be very demanding and critical because he has such strongly held beliefs. He can sometimes come off as aggressive, demanding, or critical because he’s incredibly straight-forward and will have little reserve telling you that you’re not meeting his standards. He doesn’t do this outwardly or for no reason, but if the situations call for it, he’ll tell you if you’re not up to par. He values competency and efficiency.

Liam is hard-working and dependable. He is loyal to those he cares about ot the nth degree, and does what he needs to to solve the problem at hand. He often doesn’t venture into intrigue when it comes to solving problems. He’d rather face the problem head-on, no matter what it is. He’s incredibly practical and realistic, and is sometimes confused when others over-trivialize their situation.

He’s stubborn and hard-headed. He doesn’t like to be told what to do, and he doesn’t easily give up on anything. He has a very strict set of moral values and when those values are demeaned, questioned, or pushed, he will not budge, and he often wonders why other people wander so far from their moral compass.

He is also bilingual in English and French thanks to his parents. He doesn’t talk to too many people, but if he ever goes off on rants, occasionally they’ll come out in French rather than English.

( HAIR ) : Liam has somewhat curly, short red-brown hair that is a little bit messy, but very well-kept at the same time.

( EYES ) : Liam’s eyes are a bright blue. Some would consider them piercing, but he just considers them lighter than average.

( FACIAL STRUCTURE ) : Liam has an inverted triangle facial structure, but it fits him well. He has somewhat thick eyebrows. He almost always has a bit of scruff on his face, but occasionally he’ll shave and have a bare chin. It always surprises him how odd a feeling it is to not have a beard or mustache anymore.

( BODY STRUCTURE ) : Liam is built. He’s not like a brick wall, but he’s got enough muscle to do some damage if he needs to. He’s 5’11, so almost six foot and weighs about 145 lbs.

( ATTIRE ) : He can generally be found in collared shirts and jeans, comfortable shoes.

( PARENTS ) : Michelle Ward, 39, Ministry worker, former Hufflepuff. Liam is close with his mother, and very protective of her since his father’s death. He cares a great deal about his family, and about her in general. She’s taken on so much responsibility since their father’s debt, and Liam simply tries to ease that burden in any way he can. Sometimes Michelle thinks she knows what’s best for Liam all the time, but that’s not necessarily true.

Robert Ward, 40 , Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, former Gryffindor Liam and his father had been incredibly close before the war began. Liam very much takes after his father in personality and treatment of others. Most of how he treats people comes from what he models after his father.

( HISTORY ) : Liam is the eldest of his parents four children. He grew up in a very large house in Abderdeen, Scotland, a neighborhood very close to Scotland. His father and mother traveled to work every morning, and returned home together every night. Liam’s mother is French, and as such he was raised to speak both French and English simultaneously. He doesn’t have any kind of French accent when he speaks because he primarily speaks English at home, but he, and his entire family, is fluent in French. Robert and Michelle met in the Ministry. His mother handled foreign affairs, and his father was head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. They met and, even though his father hardly spoke a word of French at the time, hit it off right away. His mother was already bilingual. Actually, she was trilingual, knowing French, English, and German. You’d never be able to tell any of the Wards are bilingual because their English is clear as day.

When his brothers and sisters were born, his mother took a leave of absence from her job at the Ministry to take care of them until they were old enough to be left with their grandmother, Nan. Liam loves each of his siblings equally, but has a very different bodn with each of them, as they are all very different people. Nothing of particular interest happened to Liam growing up except having to deal with his three younger siblings, who were rather close in age. Sophia and Aeryn were particularly different and that caused a lot of stress. Liam tried to step in whenever he could to resolved the problems with the least amount of yelling between the two. It felt like they were always yelling.

When the war began Liam’s father told his family they were to stay out of it. They weren’t to get involved, even though Liam knew if they had to take a side it undoubtedly would have been to back the Order and Harry Potter. Robert didn’t want his family to get involved, but when your father is the Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement you tended to get dragged into things when wizards threw a revolt of this magnitude. His father started spending more and more time at work, and Liam could see the toll it was taking on his mother. She missed him terribly, but she wouldn’t say anything about it because of the woman she was. She was strong, honest, kind, dutiful, and incredibly honorable. She cared about her family above all else, and Liam knew she would give her life if it were necessary to protect any of her children. Liam took that trait from her, knowing that if any of his siblings were in danger he would step in and intervene even if it meant his life.

On the day of the Battle of Hogwarts his father had already been at work for about three days straight, trying everything he could to send whoever he could to help Hogwarts, and in turn the rest of the Wizarding World. Eventually he headed into the battle himself, and as a result was killed by a Death Eater. Liam received the news via an owl from the Ministry and that little piece of paper tore his family apart and brought them that much closer at the same time. Liam has little to no respect for the Death Eaters who killed his father, and while he doesn’t know the murderer by name he wouldn’t take a chance – if he ever comes across a Death Eater of any kind he will kill them without regret.
