The way that Vivian asked the question about her falling made Theo think that Vivian thought him incapable of such an act. Sure, it might not have been the most logical thing, but it certainly would have been easier for him to catch her than it would be for her to catch him. He shrugged lightly as if the question had been no big deal, but he couldn't fight the smirk that fell across his face.
"I'm saying I could try. I make no promises," he replied honestly as Vivian took it upon herself to look him up and down, as if analyzing how much of a failure he would be should the situation was arise. He didn't let it bother him though. She could think what she wanted. He didn't have anything to prove to this girl. He rolled his eyes slightly as she began to make her way to another part of the roof that could be climbed. He stood behind her as she began to make her way to another part of the roof. She told him not to look up and he smirked.
"Don't flatter yourself, Vivian," he said smirking, but he still found himself turning around to face away from him. "If you fall, though, you better scream mighty loud cause I'm not gonna see it happening. Just as a warning," he shouted up with a smirk as he folded his arms across his chest and continued to stare out across the grounds.

Theo seemed pretty confident that he would indeed be able to catch her if she fell, and Vivian decided to let it stay that way. Maybe he could pull it off, on sheer confidence. He definitely seemed the cocky sort, unwilling to admit he couldn't do anything. Either way, at least he'd try. That was good. Vivian didn't really fancy falling off the roof.
She heard Theo's comment about not being able to see if she fell, since he was 'not looking up', and she laughed again, despite herself. It was true, she hadn't thought of that particular hitch in their otherwise flawless plan. "I promise to give you a good, loud scream," she said, jokingly. "And then you can come to my rescue. Hows that?"
Vivian made it to the top of that particular bit of roof, and looked down at Theo. "Well are you coming or not?" she called to him, raising her eyebrows sarcastically. "Honestly..." she muttered to herself as she turned away.
She was really high up now, and she turned to look at the view. It was pretty spectacular. It was a clear night, and the moon illuminated everything before her. She could see right across the lake, and to the forest. Everything looked wonderful. This was the first part of Hogwarts that had really impressed her. Sure, nothing so far had been unimpressive, but so far nothing had reached the cold hearted little girl. She wanted Theo to get up here and see this. He'd never been on the roof of Hogwarts before either (or so she had gathered) so he was sure to be just as impressed as she was.

Theo smirked as she said she'd give him a good, loud scream. He snickered slightly as she said she'd let him rescue her. He wasn't sure what kind of help he could be, but he shrugged lightly, even though she couldn't see it because she was likely still climbing.
"Sounds like a plan!" he shouted as he continued to stare out into the night. It was a quiet, cool night, despite the fact that it was August. He hadn't realized how lost in thought he was because before he knew it Vivian was calling up, asking if he was coming. He turned around and glared up at her.
"Oi! How was I supposed to know you were up there already?" he shouted with a roll of his eyes before he climbed up after her. It took him a bit shorter than it took her, but, again, he did have longer arms than she did. And longer legs, too. Once he finally reached the top he gazed out over the night, and he couldn't fight the grin that spread across his face. It was awesome, to say the least.
"Alright, Vivian. I've got to admit, this is pretty cool," he said as his eyes trailed across the black of the night, glancing up briefly at the twinkling stars above before they found the girl standing next to him. And it was very cool.

Vivian grinned as Theo joined her up on the roof, looked around, and agreed that it was, in his words, pretty cool. The stars were out in droves; Vivian had never seen so many stars before. She was sure it was to do with the fact that they were so far from any other civilisation, so far from those electric lights that muggles were so fond of, that lightened the sky so stars like this weren't visible.
She looked at Theo who was standing by her side, and found him looking at her. "I'm glad you approve," she said, smiling.
[/img] Vivian smiled as she thought of that night. After spending some time up on the roof, the two of them had climbed back down, somehow managing to scramble through the window they had left open, only to find that the feast had ended. They were caught, of course, by Professor McGonagoll, head of Gryffindor house, who had been very strict. But it was Theo who had gotten most of the blame; he was an older student, and Vivian was just a first year. It was her first night at Hogwarts, how could it possibly have been her idea? But Theo hadn't tried to sell her out, and they had gone back to the Slytherin common room laughing (admittedly, Vivian was laughing harder). They had done a few detentions, and that had been it.
And after that, Theodore Nott had become her friend. He noticed, she was sure, that when she was around lots of other people she was much more reserved. She preferred to observe, and was wary of everyone around her. Theo was the opposite; he was loud and cocky and loved to be the centre of attention. But Theo still remembered what Vivian had been like on the roof, when it was just the two of them, and he hadn't written her off. He hung around with her all the time, sometimes inviting him to join in with his fellow second years, but mostly alone; one thing they had in common was that there were very few people they could tolerate.
The bullying, of course, had started for Vivian the very day after their adventure on the roof. As beautiful and different as she was, she was an extremely easy target. Vivian couldn't have cared less, but Theo didn't stand for it, and soon enough it stopped. Over time Vivian grew more and more confident, and maybe they had both rubbed off on each other, because Theo had become more reserved, less cocky and arrogant, more intelligent in his approach to things.
Even when Theo became certain of the truth about Vivian's emotions (or lack there of) he hadn't ditched her. Maybe she knew something she didn't, or saw something she didn't... or maybe Vivian really was just that fun. Because the two of them had had a lot of fun together over the years. Soon the teachers knew not to assume everything was Theodore Nott's idea.
"Are you ready?"
A harsh voice shook her out of her reverie, and Vivian looked to see Two gesturing towards the door. "Yeah," she said, smiling ever so slightly, thinking about everything Theo had done for her over the years. "Yeah, I'm ready."
