Blackthorn :

Blackthorn, which is a very unusual wand wood, has the reputation, in my view well-merited, of being best suited to a warrior. This does not necessarily mean that its owner practises the Dark Arts (although it is undeniable that those who do so will enjoy the blackthorn wand’s prodigious power); one finds blackthorn wands among the Aurors as well as among the denizens of Azkaban. It is a curious feature of the blackthorn bush, which sports wicked thorns, that it produces its sweetest berries after the hardest frosts, and the wands made from this wood appear to need to pass through danger or hardship with their owners to become truly bonded. Given this condition, the blackthorn wand will become as loyal and faithful a servant as one could wish.

Dragon Heart String :

As a rule, dragon heartstrings produce wands with the most power, and which are capable of the most flamboyant spells. Dragon wands tend to learn more quickly than other types. While they can change allegiance if won from their original master, they always bond strongly with the current owner.
The dragon wand tends to be easiest to turn to the Dark Arts, though it will not incline that way of its own accord. It is also the most prone of the three cores to accidents, being somewhat temperamental.

( LIKES ) :

• Peace and quiet; Rabastan isn't loud or obnoxious, he likes time to himself to think. He likes to be alone a lot. After so many years of war, and the screams of the other prisoners in Azkaban, he values silence very highly.
  
• Freedom; like many freed Azkaban prisoners, Rab prizes his freedom above almost all else. He hates small, cramped rooms, and is outside a lot. He likes to be able to see the sky.
  
• Experimental magic; Rab likes to experiment with spells, and particularly likes the more intricate and obscure ones. He locks himself away for hours at a time, trying out new magic, and likes to read books on the subject. He is especially interested in Dark Magic.
  
• Quidditch; during his time at Hogwarts, Rab played Beater on the Slytherin team. He was sent to Azkaban shortly after he left Hogwarts, and when he finally escaped there was no occasion for Quidditch games. He hasn't played in years, but he still loves it.
  
• Running; Rab runs a lot, to keep his body in shape, but mostly to release pent up energy. He also likes the freedom of being able to run wherever he wants.
  

( DISLIKES ) :

• Remembering the past; Rabastan Lestrange has a lot of inner demons. He hates thinking about his past. Remembering Cecilia is just too painful, and thinking about his time in Azkaban brings him out in a cold sweat. There is also one other past memory he refuses to dwell on; torturing the Longbottoms.
  
• Cowards; Rabastan Lestrange hates cowards. He has never been one to sit on the sidelines while other men take the risks, and he hates those that do.
  
• Summer; Rab is a winter man. He vastly prefers the cold to the heat
  
• Being cooped up; Rab can't stand locked doors, small rooms, or being kept anywhere.
  
• Doing nothing; Rab can spend time alone, not doing very much at all, most definitely. But when there is something to be done, he can't stand waiting around. He is a man of action.
  

( STRENGTHS ) :

• Physical and magical strength; Rab is very physically strong, and he is a superb dueller. Twelve years in Azkaban weakened him physically, and left him rusty at performing magic, but since his escape he has returned both his body and his magical skills to their former glory
  
• Loyalty; Rab is unwaveringly loyal, but his loyalty is hard to gain. However once you have it, it is very hard to lose.
  
• Intelligence; Rab is definitely not a mindless Death Eater thug. He is, and has always been, highly intelligent.
  

( WEAKNESSES ) :

• Hot temper; Rabastan has a hot temper, which he does his best to control. Most of the time he succeeds, but not always. His temper also lends itself to making him quite a jealous man.
  
• Stubborn; Rab is one of the most stubborn people you will ever meet. He thinks hard before coming to a decision on his opinions, puts a lot of intelligent thought into it, and therefore once he has made up his mind he is impossible to sway.
  
• Brooding; Even before his time in Azkaban, Rab was often quiet and sullen. Twelve years in that hell hole haven't helped matters.

( DEMENTOR'S KISS ) : Being in Azkaban, and finding out about Cecilia's death, and that his son was being raised by her killer; they are both pretty equal for him.

( PERSONALITY ) :

Rabastan is a serious man. He doesn't laugh much at all, or joke. He is often sullen and brooding, and likes to spend a lot of time alone. He spends ours locked up with old spell books, working on new and old spells alike, inventing his own, and experimenting with the Dark Arts. He also likes to run and exercise, and runs every day in the woods surrounding the house he and his older brother are hiding out in.

When he does venture into the company of others, it is usually to go to a dark, dank pub, where no questions are asked, to nurse a Firewhiskey or several.

Rabastan has nightmares close to every night, dreams about being back in Azkaban, or of Cecilia's death (even though he wasn't there, he still imagines it). He wakes up in a cold sweat, and knows sometimes he shouts in his sleep, although his brother never mentions it. He has a lot of horrible memories from his past, things he did in his duties as a Death Eater, and twelve long years in Azkaban. He is haunted day and night by the memory of Cecilia. He had been so young when they were together, and it has been so long, that Rab no longer thinks himself as in love with Cecilia Avery (she will always be 'Avery' to him). Sometimes he tries to think of her, and can't even remember her face. But he remembers the face of the man who killed her, and Cecilia haunting him manifests as a deep desire to kill Theodore Nott Sr.

( HAIR ) : Rab's hair is black, thick and unruly. He keeps it cut relatively short (after years of it growing long in Azkaban) but doesn't really care about it or tend to it, so it is almost always messy. He has a dark beard which he also keeps from growing too long, but again doesn't tend to every day.
( EYES ) : Very dark eyes, almost black.
( FACIAL STRUCTURE ) : Rabastan has a strong jaw and brow, with thick eyebrows, making him look like the moody bastard he is. He has a handsome face, but years in Azkaban and the demons he faces every day have made it look angry and dark.
( BODY STRUCTURE ) : Rab is very tall, over 6 foot. When he was in Azkaban he grew skinny, but since his escape he has returned his body to the way it was; all muscle.
( ATTIRE ) : Rab doesn't care what he wears. When he picks out his clothes he tries to pick things of good quality, and then he can wear whatever without having to think about it. He usually wears simple, classic attire, designed not to stand out or leave too much of an impression.

( HISTORY ) :

Rabastan Lestrange was born to a pure blooded family. He was the youngest of two boys, his older brother Rodolphus being quite a bit older than him. His father was one of Lord Voldemorts original Death Eaters, having been a part of his gang at Hogwarts. When he married his wife, she too joined the ranks of the Death Eaters.

Back then the 'Death Eaters' had not been well known, and although Tom Riddle was gaining notoriety the name 'Lord Voldemort' was not known across the world as it is today. Rabastan was raised to hate muggles and those of un-pure blood, but he was never completely sold on the concept (not like his older brother), not until his parents were killed.

Before the rise of Lord Voldemort, there had still been magical elitism, and families who raised their children to believe that to be pure blood was to be better than anyone else. But they weren't organised, as Lord Voldemort was to make them, and there were also other witches and wizards with equally extreme views, anti-pureblood wizards. This subgroup has since died down dramatically, but for a short time in the years before Lord Voldemort they were almost as fanatical as the Death Eaters. Rabastan's parents were captured and killed by 'muggle fanatics', who were later sentenced to Azkaban. Rabastan had been 9 at the time. He and his brother went to live with relatives, and since that day Rabastan joined in with his brothers way of thinking; muggles were filth.

He received his Hogwarts letter at eleven years old, and when he arrived he was sorted into Slytherin, along with his brother. It was there he met Cecilia Avery, a pure blooded witch. They struck up a friendship, and as they grew older that friendship blossomed into a relationship. However, it was not to be; Cecilia's brother, James Avery, hated Lestrange, and so arranged, along with his parents, for Cecilia to marry Theodore Nott.

Rabastan was heartbroken, and insanely jealous. Cecilia went along with the plans, but they continued to see each other in secret. In their seventh year Cecilia found out she was pregnant. She assumed it was her husbands (they had been married as soon as they turned seventeen), and when she graduated from Hogwarts she had the baby; a blonde boy, Theodore Nott Jr. She kept in touch with Rabastan through letters.

Rabastan's brother had, by now, long left Hogwarts, and had married Bellatrix Black. The two were Lord Voldemort's most trusted Death Eaters. The war was at its height, and as soon as Rabastan left Hogwarts he was branded with the Dark Mark. But, soon after Rabastan joined the ranks of Death Eater, Lord Voldemort was defeated, by an infant Harry Potter.

The Lestrange brothers, Bellatrix, and their friend Barty Crouch Jr, refused to believe that Voldemort was gone for good. They captured Aurors and Order members Frank and Alice Longbottom, believing them to have information on Voldemort's whereabouts. They tortured them with the cruciatus curse, at first taking turns, but then it became obvious they weren't going to get anything from them. At that point, Bellatrix took over. Rabastan watched in disgust as his sister in law tortured the Longbottoms to the point of insanity. The memory of it still haunts him.

The four of them were put on trail soon afterwards, and sentences to life imprisonment in Azkaban. In Azkaban Rabastan was unable to receive letters from Cecilia. Her son was one year old when he had been locked away. Rab had a lot of time to think over everything he believed to be true while sat in his jail cell, and the Dementors made sure he would never forget the terrible things he had done, not for one moment. He still hated muggles, but he became disillusioned with Lord Voldemort, and the Death Eaters. He now believed Lord Voldemort to be dead. He had never been in as deep as his brother, and now he decided to look out for himself.

And then, Lord Voldemort returned. He took control of the Death Eaters, and after twelve years Rabastan, along with his brother, Bellatrix, Crouch Jr, and other Death Eaters, escaped, thanks to Lord Voldemort. Breaking out of Azkaban was like being born again. It was then that he found out the horrible truth; Theodore Nott Jr was his son, and Nott Sr had found out the truth. He had killed Cecilia. Rabastan wanted nothing more than the cause Nott a slow, and painful death, but now that wasn't possible; he would have to bide his time.

He returned to Voldemort along with his brother and sister in law, owing him his freedom. Voldemort trusted the Lestranges above all others, but Rabastan was no longer loyal to Lord Voldemort. He would always be a Death Eater, he would always hate muggles, but now he had a new goal; to kill Nott. He did as Voldemort bid him, fighting in battles for him, and finally in the battle at Hogwarts. He knew his son was somewhere in the fray, and searched for him as best he could, but couldn't find him. When Voldemort was defeated he fled instantly, not caring that his former Lord was gone. He went into hiding with his brother, Rodolphus, whose wife had been killed in the battle. The two of them found a remote house, somewhere in the woods. It is shabby, but comfortable. Rabastan is the secret keeper for the house; there is no way for the Aurors to find them.
