It was another early morning for Ren. She’d gotten up at the crack of dawn to look over a few notes and read another chapter of a book she’d taken out of the library before breakfast. She was determined to read a book a week this year. Absolutely determined. There was a smile on her face as she made her way out of the Great Hall, her bag hanging on her shoulder. All of her homework was completed and perfect, her uniform was completely pristine. She hated wrinkled clothes almost as much as she hated muggles, and she hated muggles quite a lot, but she tried not to let that show through her demeanor as she exited into the Entrance Hall with a warm smile on her face. She thought momentarily about what class she had first, and her smile only grew as she realized it was Transfiguration. Oh how she loved transfiguration!
She sighed a content sigh before her eyes wandered around the Entrance Hall for a moment, finding an unfamiliar face. It wasn’t that Ren had a name to put to every face, but she recognized a fair amount of people that she saw on a daily basis, whether they were in her house or not. She paid a lot of attention to people that weren’t in her house, actually. Those who were in her house, though, they were the ones she had a name to every face. She was almost positive she knew everyone in her house right down to all the repeating first-years, but she’d never actually test herself about it out of fear she would forget a name. She didn’t need that kind of upset and stress in her life. Once Ren failed at a task (which was rare because failure sent her into a downward spiral unlike any other) she was determined to complete the task perfectly again. As such she always got top marks, and when she didn’t she was positive the whole world knew it.
Her brows furrowed in confusion as she stared the boy. He looked completely lost… He was a Gryffindor, and he looked about her age or a little older. Why was he so confused? No one should have looked lost now. They were all repeating another year, even the first-years knew where they were going with little to no trouble. Sure they took the long way there some times, but the look written on the boy’s face was certainly one that she’d seen on many first years, and one that she’d worn on her own face plenty of times. There was confusion, and a slight panic because the boy didn’t know where he was going. That had to be it. She grinned slightly, taking a few steps toward the boy.
“Oi!” she called lightly, trying to get his attention over the chatter of all the students who were now leaving or entering the Great Hall for breakfast. “Are you okay? You look a little… well, terrified,” she said with a light laugh before looking around the Entrance Hall once more to see if she could see anyone in her Transfiguration class headed out of class. Unfortunately not, but that was okay.
“Im Ren Harper,” she said, a smile on her face, holding out her hand for the boy to shake. She didn’t want to be late to class. She hated being late to things and making people wait for her almost as much as she hated muggles, too. She hated all of these situations because they were ones that stressed her out entirely too much. She liked being on time, getting top marks, and being a pureblood. But she also liked people and helping people whenever she could, and for now, that was her duty. To help whoever this guy was out. She just hoped she was right in the fact that he was somehow new here and completely lost rather than just like… befuddled or something. Wouldn’t that be a laugh. No, no, that wouldn’t be a laugh at all. She would feel like a right ass and would likely be laughed at behind her back, and that certainly wouldn’t do. So now she stood there simultaneously hoping to help this guy and also hoping that he needed help in the first place or she was going to feel quite foolish. She was positive, though, the look in his eyes, it gave it all away! Ren was a very socially intelligent girl. She knew how to read people. She didn’t want to say she could tell what they were thinking, but she was very good at reading people’s non-verbal communication, and their facial expressions.

Bryant finally stepped into the courtyard, getting his first look at Hogwarts Castle. It was…gigantic. He had heard so many stories about it from his older brothers, stories about the ghosts and the stairwells, and the food…oh the food! Bryant could hardly wait to see if the food was as good as they had described. Durmstrang’s food had been about as appetizing as cardboard seasoned with Styrofoam. “Eat to live, not live to eat” The professors would shout at them whenever they complained. Bryant adjusted his back pack on his shoulders, it had a couple of books and a change of clothes, the rest of his stuff had been delivered to his chambers already.
As he stepped inside the great hall he suddenly realized he had absolutely no idea where he was going. Bryant looked around frantically trying to piece together a general map in his head from all the stories he’d heard but it wasn’t enough. Bryant tugged at the straps on his book bag suddenly nervous and anxious, he found his feet frozen to the tile floor as he looked around for a sign or something pointing him in the right direction.
There was nothing.
Just as he was about to break out in a cold-sweat he heard a voice over the quiet chatter, “Oi!” Bryant whipped towards the voice with a little more snap than he had hoped for, his anxiety had put him on edge. He gulped as the brunette girl approached him, he had ZERO experience talking to girls being that Durmstrang is an all-boys academy. He quickly tried to straighten out his jeans as she approached and gave his new maroon and gold t-shirt a quick tug to ensure that it was smooth. He looked up at the girl and gave her his best smile that he could manage. “Yeah, I’m ok…well, kind of. I have no idea where I’m going to be honest.” His smile sunk a little into a look of confusion. “I’m Bryant Xavier… I just transferred here from Durmstrang.” Bryant was sure that would cause questions, it’s not normal for a student to transfer from one school of magic to another, in all honesty, it’s rather un-heard of. His Headmaster at Durmstrang was furious when Bryant notified him, he’d sent Bryant two howlers and even came in person to try and convince him otherwise. But this was Bryant’s dream, he’d always wanted to come to Hogwarts, and even if he only got that for one year, to him; it was well worth it.

The boy in front of her seemed to fidget with his shirt a bit before turning around and flashing her a smile. Her smile grew slightly. Well, he was cute, that was a surprise. She grinned at him, but as his own smile fell into a look of confusion so did hers. But his answer told her everything. Ah, so he was lost... lost? He looked like he was older than her - ah, a transfer... a transfer?! Her eyes widened slightly as he said he was a transfer from Durmstrang before her face lit up with a grin as he introduced himself.
”Nice to meet you, Bryant,” she said, shaking his hand before allowing it to fall to her side. If he was a transfer that had to be a big deal. There had to be something big if they’d allow a transfer, especially so late in the school year. He looked to be about a seventh year, if Ren had to guess. She looked around the Entrance Hall to see if students were coming out of the Great Hall. Maybe she could pass him to a seventh year that could bring him to their classes or something. She sighed inwardly, deciding that it was no use to try and pawn him off on other people. It was her job to help him get situated now, and she’d take that job fully on her shoulders and complete it to the best of her abilities – to perfection. She turned back to face Bryant, a smile on her face.
”A transfer, huh? That’s a big deal. Did McGonagall give you a schedule of any kind? Did you meet McGonagall?” she asked. She’d have to start off with the basic questions. She had some classes with seventh years, but never all of them. She supposed if worse came to worst he could follow her around for the day before they actually got them situated, or she could help him figured out his schedule, if she had one. She was interested in what brought him to Hogwarts, but she’d have to leave her curiosity at the door for now. She had to find out his schedule if she wanted to get him to class on time, and she had to get him to class on time, even if it was only so she wouldn’t be more late. Ugh. She hated the thought of being late. Hated hated hated, but she pushed those thoughts aside before her eyes met Bryant’s. If he didn’t have a schedule she’d just have to wing it, which she also hated to do, but she was up for the task if it was required, she just really hoped it wasn’t.
